Face Care Basics

September 24, 2012

Establishing a proper skin care regimen is vital to having healthy, glowing skin, and a youthful complexion.

Skin types are broken into four groups:

  • Normal
  • Combination
  • Dry
  • Acne Prone.

It’s important when you are choosing your skin care line, that you find products that best match with your skin type.

Step 1 – Wash

  • Start by removing any eye makeup, using a gentle remover that won’t harm your eyes.
  • A simple DIY remover is mixing 50/50 witch hazel & olive oil.
  • Next, splash your face with lukewarm water and using a dime size amount of cleanser, gently massage into your skin.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water (this is important, too hot or cold can cause broken capillaries).
  • Pat Dry.

Step 2 – Tone

The importance of using a toner is basically to help restore the PH level of your skin.

A well-formulated toner can also help to reduce inflammation, remove those last traces of dirt and make-up, as well as add some moisturizing ingredients to the skin. They can also provide some antioxidant and anti-irritant protection.

  • Using a facial pad, pour a small amount of the toner on it, and gently swipe over entire face.  Avoid eye area.

Step 3 – Moisturize

Moisturizing is an important step in caring for your skin.

Moisturizers primarily serve to prevent loss of water, which intern helps to keep the surface of the skin hydrated. Those with oily skin often wonder if they are just going to make their skin more oily, but they’re not.  We all need to keep our skin hydrated to prevent dry skin, and premature aging.

Add a liberal amount to your entire face and neck, and gently massage in.

Step 4 – Sunblock

We all know how harmful the UV rays can be to our skin, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see sunblock added to your daily skin care regimen.

If your moisturizer has the added benefit of sunblock in it, then you’re good to go.  If not, you want to search for a mineral based sunblock that contains zinc or titanium.
