Medicinal Mushrooms

I’ve recently been reading about medicinal mushrooms, and while I have been a consumer and can speak of the benefits of Chaga Mushrooms, I’m going to have to start spreading the mushroom love around, because there are many different types, all unique in their abilities to better our health.

Medicinal mushrooms have been around forever, and offer so many health benefits from immunity boosting, improving memory, balancing blood sugar levels to aiding with digestion!

It’s funny how foods that have been around forever, are being rediscovered as we continue to explore options to better our health.

Mushrooms can help to build resistance to disease, because they containin powerful polysaccharides called beta-glucans which keep our immunity strong.

Beta glucans are crucial in the fight to stay healthy, however the body doesn’t produce them naturally so we have to look to outside sources, namely, baker’s yeast, mushrooms, and cereal grains, like barley, oats, rye, and wheat.

Every type of medicinal mushroom has their own unique combination of polysaccharides, let’s take a look at what each can offer.

Chaga Mushroom: Chaga is full of antioxidant enzymes, including what is thought to be the most potent antioxidant  of all “superoxide dismutase”.  Antioxidants prevent oxidations from happening in your body which will help protect DNA and keep your body feeling young!  Studies have shown that chaga use is an effective way to fight against unwanted bacteria, viruses, and inflammation. Chaga has also been shown to have very strong anti-tumor properties.

Reishi Mushrooms: Reishi is nature’s ultimate anti-stress antidote. As an intelligent mushroom, reishi may balance an overdriven hormone system and improve sleep quality. Reishi is thought to create balance in our systems.

Lions Mane: Great for improving memory and concentration. Lion’s Mane has also shown great results in prevention of various brain and nervous system related diseases as well as some psychiatric disorders.
