Spring Has Sprung! We Think!

Spring has Sprung!… we think

It’s still a little chilly but at least come pretend it’s spring with us at Generation Green!

We made our annual trip out to Sage Garden to pick up a fresh stock of their newly packaged non-gmo, organic seeds! We have beans, peas, peppers, carrots, tomato, kale, and more!

Why Sage Garden seeds? Sage Garden offers the largest selection of certified organic seeds in Manitoba, along with heirloom and open pollinated varieties. All seeds are germination and quality tested, and are well suited to a prairie garden. Everything is entirely GMO-free, and their suppliers are partners in the Safe Seeds Pledge.

Wait…. what? Heirloom? Open-pollinated? So heirloom plants rely on natural pollination from insects and wind. The best seeds from every crop are collected for the next one, and they rely on small-scale traditional farming methods. Genetically modified seeds create uniform crops at low cost and are sterile, which prevent them from being passed down. Growing heirloom plants allows the promotion of natural genetic diversity… which our planet ever does need.

The Safe Seed Pledge: Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations.
