Generation Green is about to become filled with some beautiful locally grown flower bouquets for convenient purchasing.
Every week beginning July 27th, 2018 until October, we will be receiving some creative arrangements from The Laughing Flowers.
The Laughing Flowers is a tiny flower field about 1/10th of an acre growing near Carman, MB. This is a little field of dreams for grower Lori Stevenson who has taken courses in field production of floral crops but mostly learned to love and care for flowers from family and friends.
Lori began growing flowers in 2017 after becoming interested in the field-to-vase movement growing in tandem with farm-to table eating and food consumption trends. Locally grown flowers provide consumers with the same qualities they seek in food: wider variety, freshness and seasonality. They also provide a wonderful feast for local bees as they bloom!
The majority of flowers bought and sold in North America are imported. Most are grown in ways that are not sustainable and can affect flower farmers’ health due to the reliance of herbicides, fungicides and insecticides to prevent disease. When Lori told us about her local flower fields, grown without the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals, we were so excited to bring them to Generation Green for our customers.
Locally grown flowers are not grown for shipping over long distances. To keep your close-to-home-grown flowers looking fresh and beautiful, snip a little off each stem after purchase, add floral food to cool water and try to keep the bouquet in a cool location out of direct sunlight.
We hope you will support this local grower by treating yourself or someone special to a bouquet!
